May 14, 2008 Trade on the agenda at Lima EU-Latin America- Caribbean Summit EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson will take part in the May 15-16 Lima Summit in Peru between the EU and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. As well as leading discussions on the EU's trade relations with the huge Latin-America/Caribbean region he will hold bilateral meetings with a wide range of bilateral partners in the region. Last week Mandelson told journalists that he hoped that the Summit would be an opportunity for the representatives of the 1 billion people of the EU and the Latin America/Caribbean region to send a clear signal on the need to complete the Doha Round of WTO world trade talks in 2008. He said: "Around the table next week in Lima will be some of the countries who can make a key contribution to making that happen". 60 Heads of State and Government from the EU Member States, Latin America and the Caribbean will gather in Lima, Peru, on May the 16th for the EU-LAC Summit. The European Commission will be represented by the President of the Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso.
